Colby Lamson‑Gordon is an artist and musician whose practice intertwines video, sound, and image. Born in China and raised in the United States, they examine transracial and transnational (dis)placement through imagined memory and imperfect connection to place. Employing documentary, video art, embodied knowledge, and musique concrète, Lamson‑Gordon investigates longing and lineage from a queer, Chinese‑diasporic view. Emphasizing process, repetition, and duration, their work shifts between clarity and opacity, producing layered compositions.
Their videos have screened at Ridgewood Off‑Kilter Film Festival, East Village Film Festival, and Parsons School of Design. Their sound pieces and collaborations have appeared at Residency Unlimited, Snug Harbor Cultural Center, Mannes School of Music, Nod Theater, and Gallery ZXY. An O’Connor Award winner for best economic thesis and a two‑time recipient of Parsons Graduate Student Research Travel awards, they hold an MFA in Design & Technology from Parsons and a BA in Economics from Barnard College. They are based in New York City and teach part‑time as faculty at Parsons.
